SHOP SMALL SATURDAY!: My Favorite Local Businesses Now and Always

I love to shop small. It's something I advocate for in everything I do as I always make an effort to give back to my community. Now more so than ever, small businesses need traction to make it through the pandemic. While most of them have Black Friday sales, they all have great holiday gifts for anyone in your life. This is just a shortlist of some of my favorites in Lexington, Baton Rouge, and beyond.

LEXINGTON

1. The Nail Shop

My absolute favorite place to get my nails done when I'm home. The Nail Shop specializes in dip and nail art and is running an insane holiday giveaway contest right now.

2. Shop Local KY

Me and Shop Local go way back. They were an early partner on my fashion blog and I've analyzed their brand strategy for many a Mass Comm class. Their Kentucky merch is one-of-a-kind and they give back to the community whenever they can. Rick and Joni are so kind and it shows in the care they have for the store.

3. Street Scene Vintage

This is one of Lexington's IYKYK stores. A friend took me to Street Scene when I was in high school and I think sparked my love for vintage. The clothes are of course amazing, but I love their vintage accessories and homegoods. They're running 20% off all weekend long online and in their store.

4. All of Lexington's local breweries.

I cannot just pick one y'all. 22 Lexington breweries are members of the Independent Craft Brewers Association, and they'll all be celebrating Small Brewery Sunday on November 29th. The Brewers' Daughters on Instagram is my favorite resource for finding new things to try!

BATON ROUGE

1. Red Stick Spice Co

I did a piece on Red Stick for a class and was enamored by all they had to offer. Curated spice mixes, loose-leaf teas, and more in the heart of Mid-City

2. Mimosa Handcrafted

The most beautiful Bayou-inspired jewelry pieces come from Madeline. She and her husband use a unique method of wax casting for their rings, bracelets, and more, and I've already used their Black Friday sale for some of my Christmas shopping 👀

3. French Truck Coffee

I don't drink coffee, but I love to gift bags of French Truck around the holidays. Their holiday blend is a fan favorite, and they have super quick shipping from their New Orleans store.

ALL-OVER

1. The Conscious Merchant

I was introduced to TCM by a very dear friend, and I live for their sustainable goods. Personally their bamboo hairbrush and cotton rounds are daily staples in my routine. If you're local to Denver, definitely check out their refill bar.

2. ALV Jewels

Such fun, trendy jewelry made to last. They have massive sales all holiday season and so much to choose from.

3. Etsy. Dot. Com.

The biggest thing you can do when looking for a specific gift is to try Etsy. Odds are someone is making it by hand, out of their own home, and ready to turnaround for the holidays. Etsy has curated so many gift idea lists for whoever is on your list with so many individual shops to choose from.
